Welcome to the Department of Fisheries, Jamalpur Science and Technology University, Jamalpur. The department of fisheries aims to become a "Center of Excellence" in fisheries education and research, ensuring food and nutrition security with entrepreneurial spirit. Fisheries science is the theoretical and applied knowledge for understanding fisheries resources following a systematic methodology for their sustainable production. The department is offering an undergraduate program in fisheries science, as well as launching a Master of Science (MS) degree with five major disciplines: a) Fisheries Biology and Genetics, b) Aquaculture, c) Fisheries Management, d) Fisheries Technology, and e) Marine Fisheries. Two disciplines, namely aquaculture and fisheries management, have already commenced their MS activities. In the Department of Fisheries of JSTU there are 16 teachers who are striving by acquiring and delivering their knowledge to enhance the development and skills of the students in the domains of biology, genetics, aquaculture, fish diseases, fish population dynamics, oceanography, inland and open water fisheries management, fisheries microbiology, harvesting and post-harvest processing, biochemistry, statistics, economics, and a lot more. We are working to produce insightful fisheries graduates who can address the upcoming challenges of climate change, particularly in support of Bangladesh's development. We are committed to building the next generations of scientists to overcome the challenges of climate change and chronic food shortages through catalyzing the blue economy of Bangladesh. We express our commitment to solving these problems with our research skills and scientific integrity. So, I welcome the students to explore the opportunity of building and advancing their knowledge from this department and do magnificent work to overcome the upcoming chronic food shortage at the national and global levels.
