This is Mahfuzul Alam Mithu, lecturer of the Department of Fisheries, Jamalpur Science and Technology University, Bangladesh. My academic and professional life has been motivated by fisheries science, marine biodiversity, and sustainable management of aquatic resources.
I have done my Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and Master of Science in Fishing and Post Harvest Technology from the same university with a CGPA of 3.90 out of 4.00 in both courses. From school I was doing well by getting a GPA of 5.00 during both schooling (SSC) and higher schooling (HSC) exams. My commitment to excellence in higher education and research was strengthened by these accomplishments.
My research interests cover mainly the field of marine fisheries management, fish nutrition, fish health, aquatic ecology, conservation of biodiversity, and sustainable aquaculture. I have actively participated in national-level research projects, including underutilized marine fishes used as raw materials for value-added food products (surimi) and food product development using seaweed from the coastal area of Bangladesh during academic activities. These experiences enabled me to be closely involved with researchers, policymakers, and communities in addressing fisheries and food security challenges.
My academic work has also benefited from internships abroad, such as at Niigata University, Japan, and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia, where I learned about marine biology, nutrition of fish, and laboratory-based experimental research.
I have experience using the R programming language, SPSS, and ArcGIS; interpreting laboratory data; interpreting ecological data; and experimental design. I believe in a science/teaching/field approach to making a contribution to sustainable fisheries development and aquatic ecosystem conservation.
As a teacher/researcher, my vision is to continue with research in fisheries and aquatic sciences and share what I know with the world by contributing to the science of sustainable use of marine resources, conservation of biodiversity, and food security.

| Marine Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Resource Utilization | My academic and research interests are focused on marine fisheries management, fish nutrition, fish health, aquatic ecology, biodiversity conservation and sustainable aquaculture systems. I have been engaged extensively in fish and fishery products nutritional and microbiological quality studies, involving semi-fermented traditional foods, marine species from Bay of Bengal. My study also involves on seasonal variations in fish composition and safety and edibility assessment of seaweed (Ulva intestinalis) from coastal Bangladesh. I have also been involved in various national level research programs related to the utilization of underutilized marine fishes for value added products like surimi and development of functional food products using seaweed. These experiences have deepened my hands-on and minds-on expertise in fisheries science and my ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary research, policy and community groups to tackle problems associated with sustainable fisheries, food security, and coastal resource management. | Marine fisheries management; fish nutrition and biochemical composition; fish health and food safety; aquatic ecology; coastal and marine biodiversity conservation; sustainable aquaculture; development of value-added fishery products (e.g., surimi); seaweed-based functional food development; post-harvest fisheries technology; and fisheries-based food security. |
