About the Department of Geology

The Department of Geology at Jamalpur Science and Technology University was established with the approval of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on 17 September 2019. The department officially commenced its academic activities on 30 August 2023 with the aim of providing quality education and research opportunities in the field of Earth Sciences.

The department follows a modern semester-based academic system designed to ensure continuous learning, regular assessment, and effective student engagement. Currently, the department offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours degree in Geology, which is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in earth sciences and their practical applications.

The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive laboratory training, geological fieldwork, mapping exercises, and research activities. Through hands-on laboratory experiments, field investigations, and project-based learning, students gain practical skills essential for understanding Earth materials, geological processes, natural resources, environmental issues, and geohazards.

The Department of Geology is committed to nurturing future geoscientists through quality education, hands-on training, and research. The department encourages students to explore the Earth, understand its resources and processes, and develop practical solutions to geological and environmental challenges.

With a strong emphasis on field-based learning, scientific inquiry, and professional development, the department aims to prepare graduates who can contribute effectively to society, sustainable development, and the advancement of geoscience in Bangladesh and beyond.
